Chiropractic
Research estimates that at least 8 out of every 10 people
with back pain get their pain not as a result of a specific lesion or disease
process, but as a result of functional problems in the joints and muscles in
and around the spine. This most commonly
happens as a result of poor posture, repetitive motions, injury or sedentary
lifestyle. Muscles become unbalanced and
bring increased and abnormal stresses to bear on the joints they surround often
causing those joints to become misaligned, preventing normal joint motion, and
in time developing into painful conditions. Most painful conditions of the spine, joints and muscles develop in this
way.
Chiropractic is the treatment of choice for back pain. Research demonstrates that Chiropractic is more effective than traditional back pain remedies, physical therapy, and use of NSAIDS (the class of medications that includes aspirin, ibuprofen, and Aleve). Moreover patients who receive Chiropractic care are more satisfied with their treatment than those receiving other types of treatment. Chiropractic is also a very effective and safe treatment for other conditions including neck pain, tension and migraine headaches, disc problems, sciatic and other nerve pains.
Chiropractic Doctors are specially trained to identify areas of the spine and joints that have become misaligned and fixed. Then using a procedure known as a Chiropractic Adjustment or Manipulation, gently free the fixed joint and move it back into its proper alignment. Chiropractic treatments typically do not hurt, but like starting a new exercise routine, you may feel sore for a day or two after your first treatment.
Dr. Burkholder is an expert in several different Chiropractic techniques ranging from hands-on to very gentle instrument techniques and will often combine Chiropractic with traditional physiotherapy and advanced physical rehabilitation techniques to speed recovery and provide longer lasting relief.
